Hockhocking Adena Bikeway

This trail is indeed a jewel

May, 2024 by bentriderken

My wife and I have ridden some incredibly beautiful trails so I was a bit skeptical reading the reviews claiming how beautiful this trail is. I am now a believer. The scenery is beautiful with the cliffs up the hillsides but the most impressive feature for us was the sheer number of bird species that we saw but alas did not see. I turned on the Merlin Bird App which identified 12-15 species of birds in the morning. We have never been on a trail with this many bird sounds. We will ride this trail often as it is one to ride during the 4 seasons.

Western Fayette Bike Path

This trail is just an extension of Xenia Jamestown...straight trail, not much to brag about.

May 19, 2024 Paint Creek Bike Ride…..AWESOME

We started at Mile Marker .5 in Chillicothe on a delightful ride through South Eastern Ohio. We stopped after 19 miles at Austin next to a new establishment (Austin Mill) selling beverages and food. This trail is fabulous! We were thrilled to see how well the trail is being maintained; finding the trail quite smooth with normal asphalt separations that had been filled. Yes, there are occasional root bumps; nothing to worry about as the tree canopy provides great shade. Yes, there are a couple of places where the big arrows had faded to direct us but trail sense kept us on trail. Thank you to the three Ohio counties teaming up to make/maintain the memorable bike trail.

Prairie Grass Trail

Day 3

A wonderful trail that slowly climbs out of Xenia. It begins with a canopy of trees and later turns to fields. An Inn on the trail in Cedarville warmly welcomes cyclists for a rest stop. It saved us from a passing thunderstorm.
Five Stars. We rode 51 miles.

Xenia-Jamestown Connector

Day 1

Xenia is a casual cyclist's version of heaven. Five trails radiate out of this town. "Xenia Station" is the nucleus. Find yourselves a nice bed and breakfast and spend the week.

This is a great warm up trial. Nicely maintained. We did 42 miles in May 2024 to start our week.

Olentangy Trail

I enjoy the trail diversity of activities

I like this trail. You can ride and park to OSU football games, Crew soccer games, Red, White and Boom, and any festival in the Columbus city. But there is also wildlife- hawks, Eagle sightings, deer, beaver, muskrats, owls, etc. You can find picnic benches as well to use all year. There is a frisbee golf course up in Worthington along with Antium lake. It has a bit going for it in my opinion but at times a bit crowded around Whetstone Park and OSU campus. I just chill around these areas and go very slow. This is also something I wish the serious speed bikers would do considering it is a multi-use trail.

Ohio to Erie Trail

We did a 8.45 mi round trip between Harvard Rd and Warren Rd overhead bridge. Being in a wheelchair we had no issues whatsoever with the surface of the trail.

Wellston Bike Path

Scenic but Short

During a busy workweek this was my go-to ride. I ride it twice and add some riding around town in order to get at least 10 miles in. There is lots of shade on the trail. I would have two points of caution: The deer are heavy. I’ve had several cross in front of me and sustained a minor injury when I had to slam on my brakes. Secondly, there is a lack of trail etiquette from pedestrians. I put a bell on my bike but it hasn’t helped. Use caution on this trail, especially when crossing Route 93.

Paint Creek Recreation Trail

Not as bad as I expected - peaceful and quiet

October, 2023 by bikin-mike

Almost skipped this trail because of the bad reviews. Glad I didn’t. Looks like they fixed the worst spots. Most of the remaining bad ones marked with white paint. Still have a few unmarked bumps that will get your attention. I didn’t think they were too bad on my hybrid at my leisurely 12mph pace.

Rode from Hopewell Mounds MM9 to Shaw Wetlands MM30. Nice peaceful, quiet, secluded ride. Saw only 2 people in 4 hours! Even though SR35 is visible to the north for about half the ride, I didn’t hear any road noise until about MM29. Crossed about 15 bridges. Some cool old wood piling ones. My favorite part was Hopewell to Frankfort - curves along creek and big bridges. I think my least favorite was about MM23.5 to MM25.5. Open with farm fields on both sides.

Looked like they blew the leaves off in Ross County. Fayette County was totally leaf covered in spots. Made it hard to see the buckeyes.

If you can handle some root bumps, go enjoy this secluded ride….bikin-Mike…Oct 2023

Ohio does another awesome rail trail. We went from Nelsonville down to Ohio university to the community center and back . 40 miles. Lots of rock bluffs, big trees and tree cover on the upper section. Good pavement. Not crowded for a Sunday. Don’t miss this trail.

Big Walnut Trail

Not a bike path

The trail path that you access from Academy Park is NOT a bike path…scenic? Sure! Bring your bike? Don’t waste your time…
